Bransty clinch nine-goal thriller
Published at 13:25, Thursday, 24 January 2013
BOTH teams struggled to cope with the conditions and they traded blows for 19 minutes until Lowca broke the deadlock when they had a free kick 22 yards out.
The ball was played into the box and it took a deflection and caught the Bransty keeper off guard: 1-0 Lowca.
Bransty where huffing and puffing and they drew level on 35 minutes when a ball played into the box and Connor Holliday headed in 1-1.
Bransty were now on top and how they never went in front was unbelievable. From a long throw the keeper made a great save and Milburn looked to have scored from the rebound, but the ball was cleared off the line and it fell to Fox and again it was cleared off the line. Half time: 1-1
If the first half was a bit dull the second half certainly lived up to its expectations.
In a crazy 13 minutes Bransty scored three goals. Firstly on 50 minutes Connor Holliday got his second goal from a good cross and he headed home (2-1 Bransty).
Then on 54 minutes Connor Holliday broke clear and when it looked like he was going to complete his hattrick he selfishly squared the ball for Brian Fox to score on his debut.
Fox added his second on 57 minutes when the Lowca keeper failed to hold onto the ball and young Fox was there to slot home from 5 yards: 4-1 Bransty.
You would have thought this game was over but Lowca, who never give in, got a second when a long through ball wasn’t dealt with by the Bransty defence and Sam Todhunter headed home on 65 minutes to make it 4-2.
It was that man Todhunter who got Lowca’s third on 72 minutes when he powered home a header from a corner – 4-3 with 18 minutes to play.
Lowca were now pushing for an equaliser.
Bransty were finding it hard to cope with Sam Todhunter’s pace up front.
It was Bransty who got back on the score sheet when they got a penalty on 75 minutes when Lowca conceded a penalty and Branden O’Fee slotted home from 12 yards: 5-3 Bransty.
But Lowca wouldn’t lie down and on 81 minutes Oliver Todd fired home after the ball wasn’t cleared properly from the Bransty defence – 5-4 with 10 minutes to go. Lowca were pressing for an equaliser but Bransty had a couple of chances late on.
Lowca had the best chance on 89 minutes when Todd rushed his shot to fire over the bar from outside the box.
Final score Bransty Rangers 5 Lowca 4.
