ONLY two games were played in week 15 of the West Allerdale and Copeland Cricket Association (WACCA), but the games both played and unplayed had a major influence upon the destinations of trophies.
The much-delayed Sandwith Roofing Cup semi-final between BCMS and Broughton was eventually played.
Wayne Nixon began with a hat-trick and claimed 5-4 to decimate the Broughton batting.
Gary Swanston made 25 ret in an all out total of 61, which, despite Malcolm Pattinson picking up 2-8, proved to be inadequate.
Mark McCarron made 23 ret to carry BCMS to 63-4 and set up a repeat of last season’s final versus Sandwith Roofing at the Valentine ground on August 16.
The other Thursday night fixture basically ended Isel’s Division Two title hopes and the title is now Workington Juniors to lose. The fixture was relocated to Cockermouth School and the visitors’ top three all cashed in – Liam Hazzard 30 ret, Matt Gorley 29 (caught going for a retirement boundary) and Daniel Robson 31 ret.
Isel didn’t help themselves by conceding 32 extras and had to attempt to surpass 137-5 to keep their title hopes alive.
A 79-run second wicket partnership between Alan Brown 23 and James Gate 49 gave Isel hope, but once Robson Scott 2-22 dismissed Gate the innings stalled. Nathan Graham picked up 3-4 as Isel limped to 106-7.
In Division Two, all having played seven (expect Cockermouth Academicals who have played nine), Workington Juniors and Cockermouth Academicals jointly lead the with 24.
Broughton are third with 18, followed by Seascale Juniors (14), Isel (13) and Allonby with three.
Yet another week of rain wiped out all the other fixtures, but the weather has now wiped out too many of BCMS’ fixtures to allow them retain the Division One title. For the first time, Windscale Club, Seascale are the champions.
