Midweek Cricket dodges the showers

ANOTHER week spent dodging the showers saw all the Downtown Deli Cup games played but the Challenge Vase fixtures weren’t as fortunate.

Defending Champions Windscale, Club Seascale held Sandwith Roofing to a very gettable 101-9 as after Liam Hazzard made 25 then Adam Walker 25* watched wickets fall at the other end as Adam Brown 2-16, Paul States 2-10 & Steve Brown senior with 2-20 applied the brakes. The home side raced to 69-1 in 11 overs on the back of Lee Fleet’s 20 & Paul Knott’s 26 before the Sandwith Roofing bowlers took control – Damien Hazzard 2-12, Neil Talbot 2-8 & Kieron Doyle 3-7 combined to hold the holders to 99-8.

BCMS beat WCLS in the other game in this group – details to follow.

In the other group Braithwaite dismissed Cockermouth Academicals for 126, with again the top order scoring the runs – Graham Spark 30 ret, Lewis Neesham 29 & Hugh Carter 27. Dan Pyke 3-24 & Phil Knight 3-10 accounted for the tail. The Accies bowlers made Braithwaite work to reach 130-7, but runs from Trevor Kitching 20, Harry Rigby 30 ret, Jason Pyke 33 ret & Lee Zaninetti 22* saw the home team home.

Royal George were bowled out by Whitehaven Colts for 116 with three batsmen all making 30 ret: Peter Thompson, Ian Studholme & Josh Burns, extras & the other 8 batsmen only made 26 between them as Thomas Sarrington 4-12 cut off the tail. Two more batsmen made 30 ret this time for Whitehaven Davesh Shete & Callum Pearson before Sarrington with 20* saw Whitehaven to 117-4 & a comfortable victory.

The Downtown Deli Cup semi finals are both at Cockermouth School:

June 25 winner of the Braithwaite group v runners-up in the Seascale group

June 26 winner of the Seascale group v runners up of the Braithwaite group

Broughton usually enjoy home field advantage, but Nathan Graham claimed 5-0 to rout them for 61, Workington Juniors lost 5 wickets in reaching 62, with Ollie Wilson 33 ret the only batsman on either side to prosper.

The other game played in the Challenge Vase saw Seascale Juniors visit Isel. 123-8 was achieved by Seascale. The visitors made 96-6 in their 21 overs
