Whitehaven claim major scalp

WHITEHAVEN Colts captured their biggest scalp in the short WACCA existence by beating the Division 1 champions BCMS.

Callum Lofthouse with 2-10 shone with the ball as BCMS were held to an inadequate 97-5; Lewis Hull 22, Ryan Clubley 31 ret & Wayne Nixon 28* doing the bulk of the scoring. Nixon with 2-21 delayed the inevitable, but Rob Fisher 23* & Jamie Bell 29* saw the home side home as they made 99-3.

The WCLS could only field 7 men at Seascale & Lee Norman (22*) alone made a notable contribution with the bat, Steve Brown Junior collected 2 for 6. Windscale Club, Seascale had little trouble remaining the only unbeaten team in WACCA. Robin Sparshott with 60* was the star in a total of 82-3.

Peter Thompson 55 & Andrew Davidson 25 were the backbone of Royal George’s 120-4. Braithwaite didn’t lose a wicket as the top 3 in their order all got retirement scores – Nathan Fox 30, Phil Knight 32 & Jason Pyke 30, as they cruised to 121-3.

In Downtown Deli Division 2 Cockermouth Academicals already have their destiny in their own hands as they brushed aside second placed Isel.

Lewis Neesham 20, Jack Edmondson 31 ret & Hugh Carter 35 had promised a huge total for the Accies, but Terry Johnstone 2-16 & Jimmy Gate 2-8 kept the tail in check. In reply to 126-8 father & son combination of Jimmy Gate 35 & his son Matthew 31 took Isel to 79-1, then Kieron Rickerby 3-12 & Luke Heap 2-10 plunged Isel to 82-6 & they closed 20 runs adrift at 106-8.

Clayton Lee hit 48 out of Seascale Juniors 121-6 as Andy Skelton 3-27 & Kurt Chestney 2-17 kept Broughton in the game. Broughton were untroubled in making 126-4 as Andy Hazlewood 22, Gary Graham 23 & Skelton 34*combined to see the visitors home.

Isel stormed into the Crisp & Rowell Shield final as Phil Hind with 4-4 in his 2 overs torpedoed Allonby’s effort as they were 8-5 in 4 overs.

Gary Blacklock with 20 ret enabled the visitors to bat out the full 20 overs. But 64-9 never looked defendable as Matt Eden (22) & Mike Gate (20) both got retired & with the scores level Phil Hind completed a career night by hitting the winning 6, as Isel made 70-5 in only 13.3 overs & they will now face WCLS in the final.

Sandwith Roofing will defend the Sandwith Roofing Cup in the final after inflicting upon Cockermouth Academicals their defeat of the season in the semi final.

Their opponents will be either BCMS, whom they beat in the final last season or Broughton who won the trophy in 2005.
