Final 100 per cent record falls

THE final 100 per cent record in the Downtown Deli league came to a crashing end.
Cockermouth Academicals could only field 9 men against Broughton and the visitors were quickly in trouble as Shakir Rajput claimed 3-19, but on his Broughton debut Alex Grainger made 31 ret & in partnership with Gary Graham lead Broughton out of trouble. Graham 62* then combined with Paul Foster 26* to power Broughton to 145-5.
When Lewis Neesham was dismissed for 21 the innings quickly imploded – 51 all out, with Barry Nulty picking up 2 for 6.
The Thursday night fixtures – Seascale Juniors v Isel & Workington Juniors v Allonby were both rained off.
This leaves Windscale Club, Seascale as the only beaten team left in WACCA.
It was a very close run thing against Braithwaite as Robin Sparshott 29, Steve Brown Junior 33 ret and Lee Fleet 30 ret early work was undone by Lee Zaninetti 2-3 and Gilbert Pyke 2-19 as they were held to a very gettable 129-7.
Braithwaite’s openers Nathan Fox & Phil Knight both made 30 ret, but the Seascale bowlers kept the remaining batsmen in check as only Zaninetti with 20 of the other batsmen made a contribution. This left the visitors agonisingly short on 125-4 when the innings was closed.
WCLS thanks to Nick Bulman 51 & Rob Allen 69 powered to 147-6 against Whitehaven Colts. In a team effort the young side made 148-7 and climbed into second place, with Callum Pearson 26, Robbie Fisher 22 and Davesh Shete 30 all making significant contributions.
For the Lawyers Gary Quinn 2-21 and John Burns 2-26 were the pick of the bowlers.
The other game in Division 1 was the basement battle between defending Champions BCMS & Sandwith Roofing – who have never finished lower than second in 10 seasons.
Yet again the theme of the week was repeated the top order Kristian Moffat 35 ret, John Hodgson 38 & Kyle Galea 24 did the bulk of the scoring only for Mike Yeoman 2-23 to prevent the tail cashing in.
In reply to 137-7 Callum Moffat 31 ret, Adam Chambers 32 ret and Ryan Clubley with 24 almost saw the champs home, then Kristian Moffat claimed 2-8 – which just delayed the inevitable as BCMS reached 140-6 with plenty of time to spare.
There is now a 3 week break from League fixtures as the Downtown Deli Cup group stages are played by the leading 8 sides and the Challenge Vase by the other 5.
The league tables are:–
