Cockermouth see off Seascale challenge
Last updated at 11:56, Thursday, 17 May 2012
THE only winners in a very wet week in the Downtown Deli League were Cockermouth Academicals who scored a comfortable home win against Seascale Juniors.
Lewis Neesham’s innings was cut off at 25 by a stunning caught and bowled from Clayton Lee (2-20) this left Keith Lockwood 40*, with 3 sixes, to guide them to 122-4. It was quickly over as a contest as Shakir Rajput & Jack Edmondson both claimed 2-4 and Peter Sutton 3-3 wrapped up the innings at 50.
The other Division 2 matches Isel v Allonby and Workington Juniors v Broughton were victims of the weather. The entire Division 1 program was also washed out, the real winners were BCMS – as this was their bye week.
The delayed Sandwith Roofing quarter-final tie between Workington Juniors and Broughton was played. The hosts thanks to Ryan Scott 21 ret and Darren Wood with 22 ret posted 106-9, Andy Skelton 2-11 & Mark Steadman 2-8 were the most successful Broughton bowlers.
The visitors thanks to 3 retirements cruised home; Dave Smith made 21 as did Skelton & Mark Steadman 21 as the pair completed excellent all round matches.
The weather has left the top half of the cup draw unresolved.
