FOUR West Cumbrian players represented England 18s on Saturday in a narrow defeat against Wales at Leigh.
Wath Brow’s Ian Curnow made a number of trademark storming runs to enable England to take a 14-12 lead at half time. The very skilful Welsh team threatened to overrun England in the second half but, ferocious tackling by Kells centre Danny Rowell limited the score.
The Welsh, however took a 14-30 lead. Wath Brow half backs then came to the fore with Captain Karl Dixon scoring a stunning individual try followed by his 17-year-old club team mate Charlie Tomlinson who scampered under the posts for a converted try to make the score 24-30 and set up a grandstand finish.
Despite sustained attacks England were unable to breach the Welsh defence and the visitors gained a deserved victory.
