Kells smash Glasson 48-0 to win the Amateur Cup

KELLS were easy winners of the Amateur Cup when they demolished injury-hit Glasson Rangers 48-0 on Friday.
it was always going to be tough for Glasson, who have lost key players to injury in recent weeks, and unbeaten Kells were in no mood to be sympathetic.
A converted try on six minutes gave Kells the flying start that Glasson dreaded and by half-time the Copeland side had accumulated a 20-0 lead.
If Glasson were to produce an unlikely fight-back they needed to score first in the second-half but within two minutes Kells had scored another converted try.
The first try of the game had been scored by winger Connor Holliday which Ross Gainford converted for the first of his six goals.
On 12 minutes it was the turn of the other Kells winger, Carl Schofield to go over in the left-hand corner with another successful conversion doubling the lead.
Glasson were showing a lot of spirit and determination but couldn’t get back into the game before Kells scored again eight minutes before the break. This time it was substitute Ryan Robb who made the line in the corner.
Then on 36 minutes, Holliday completed the first-half scoring when he went over for an unconverted try.
Glasson had hardly time to pick-out the bits of half-time orange stuck in their teeth when Kells scored again. This time it was another substitute Tony Burns who burst through to score and Gainford added the extras.
When a third substitute Barry Boyd Boys scored on 45 minutes, going in under the sticks, Glasson were looking down both barrels.
The lead was stretched to 38-0 on 50 minutes when centre Scott Lofthouse crossed out wide and Gainford landed an excellent touchline conversion.
To their credit Glasson stuck at it but they could do little to prevent Burns crossing for his second. The fact that Gainford judged the howling wind to perfection to land a fine conversion, only added to Glasson’s misery. When Glasson did manage to cross the line nobody, evening the Kells camp, would have begrudged them the score but unfortunately the try was disallowed.
It meant the last word was with Kells and Holliday took a 50-yard interception to complete his hat-trick seconds before the whistle.
