Eccles thumped by Egremont

THE Rangers rampaged to another victory 6-44 over the in-form Eccles.

Eccles, by their own admission have put in some scintillating performances recently but couldn’t find a way to stop this young team from Egremont who out-enthused the home side and fully deserved their victory.

The only thing Eccles had to cheer was a debut try for 17-year-old Tom Pratt which Mike Carney converted to level the scores on 19 minutes after Matt Bewsher had opened the scoring on 10 minutes, but it was Rangers from then on, despite a man of the match performance from Eccles’ hooker Richard Openshaw.

Egremont’s outstanding forward displays came from Richard Farrer, Tom Whalley and Kevin Brown rotating in the prop position. They drove the team forward down the middle making yards on each drive, whilst pivots Dan Telford, Peter Murphy and Ali Leak organised and directed the way forward. Young Lewis Beckwith also joined the game and took over seamlessly from Murphy.

However, the star of the show was Rangers’ John-Paul Brocklebank who finished with a hat-trick of tries and six goals. It was 16-6 at the break with Leon Crellin scoring a minute from the whistle after Brocklebank had restored Rangers’ lead with his first try on 23 minutes.

Within eight minutes of the restart the contest was over with Daniel Telford bulling his way over for a try, quickly followed in two minutes from a show and go from Brocklebank. A try just before the hour from Mr Reliable, Ryan Barnes and a last second effort from the incisive Rhys Davies completed the scoring.

All in all, a good day away for Egremont.
