Workington Town have already received interest for their vacant coaching position – despite it only being open for one day.

The club and head coach Dave Clark parted company on Thursday night and the position has not yet been advertised.

But interested parties have already come forward, hoping to lead Workington into the 2018 season.

Town are keeping their options open as to whether they snap up a coach or a player/coach and the post will be formally advertised shortly as they look to move forward.

Director of rugby Les Ashe said: "We are keeping all of our options open as to whether we get a coach or a player coach this time.

"We have already received some interest, directly to us, immediately after the announcement.

"But in the interests of fairness we will be formally advertising the position and we will be interviewing and going through all the correct channels."

And in the meantime, the club is still hoping to continue their recruitment process after finishing their season last weekend.

They already have three players signed up for 2018 in Stevie Scholey, Tom Curwen and Gordon Maudling and they hope more will follow suit.

Ashe admitted they were still looking to speak with some of the current squad and also players they have already identified that they would like to join the club.

He added: "We will continue to speak to players but with an air of caution in that whoever gets the coaching role, will have their own ideas of what they want.

"Last year was very different as the club was in a state of transition after being relegated.

"But we will continue to pursue players that were already targets for us and look to the members of our current squad who want to remain at the club."
