Workington Town are continuing to look to the future after securing the future of talented former Super League youngster Jake Moore.

The highly-rated forward signed for Town back in June and has impressed the coaching staff and directors.

He has now put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Derwent Park for another year.

Town director, Les Smallwood, said: "Jake is a great signing for us. He’s done really well since he joined part way through the season.

"He trains really well, runs hard with the ball, is very athletic and is a good lad to have around the club."

Smallwood added that it was another important step for the club who are keen to keep the brightest local talent and build a predominantly Cumbrian side for the future.

He added: "We are building for the future here at Workington and we’re constantly looking to capture local talent.

"Jake fits that bill exactly and after putting in some strong performances in the latter half of the season we were eager to get him signed for 2018.

"We’re all looking forward to seeing him in a Town shirt again."

Moore originally signed for Whitehaven at the start of the season but lefts shortly after and then joined Workington after a short spell back with his amateur side Wath Brow Hornets.

Moore is a product of the Wigan Warriors scholarship and he signed pro terms with the current world club champions in 2013.

He has a great pedigree, having appeared in the Under-19 Grand Final for Wigan against St Helens and played for England Academy.

Moore is the fourth locally based player to commit his future to Workington, following on from fellow forwards Tom Curwen, Stevie Scholey and Gordon Maudling.

Town are heading to Keighley on Sunday for the penultimate game of their Super 8s campaign.

And they will host Whitehaven in the big West Cumbrian derby the following Sunday at Derwent Park in the final game of the season.

Director of rugby Les Ashe said the players were still up for the final two games, despite the chance of them making the play-offs being slim.

He said: "They are professional players and want to finish the season on a high for everyone involved.

"A lot of hard work has gone in this year, both on and off the field.

"The odd point here and there might have made a difference to the season but this is where we are and the lads still want to finish this season as high as we possibly can in these last two games."
