Workington Town prop Kris Coward says the players will look to win the final derby of the season for their loyal fans.

Town welcome Whitehaven to Derwent Park on Sunday for the last League 1 Super 8s game.

But with Town are already out of the play-offs and Whitehaven guaranteed a top three finish, there is only pride left to play for in this clash, ko 3pm.

Coward says the players still want to win the all-important bragging rights for the west of the county.

"It is all about pride and the fans," said Coward. "We will still go out there and fight for the fans and I'm sure Whitehaven will do the same.

"They don't want to come and get beaten by us and the same can be said of us. We want to win and get the bragging rights at the end of the day."

And Coward is looking forward to going up against one of his old team-mates in Karl Olstrom.

"It will be the first time I have ever played against Karl so that will be a strange one," he admitted.

"But it all adds to the game. At the end of the day a lot of us are mates and we mix in the same circles."

Coward also paid tribute to the retiring Haven winger Craig Calvert who will play in his final derby match.

"He is one of the first people you think of when you think of Whitehaven, along with Scott McAvoy," said Coward.

"He has been there for 13 years and he deserves a send-off and hopefully he will get a good one.

"Hopefully the crowd won't give him too much grief although it doesn't bother him at all. He likes the crack and to play the pantomime villain but he's a good lad.

"He is the top try scorer for Whitehaven which is something in itself although I still hope he is on the wrong end of the result."
