Distington have already made club history in reaching the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup third round – and now they are aiming for more.

League One outfit Coventry Bears stand in the way of them reaching another milestone on Sunday afternoon.

But, whatever happens, they will be firmly in the national spotlight, with BBC Sport cameras covering the game live on the website.

“I would be lying if I didn’t think about how good it would be to win this game,” admitted Distington chairman Mark Askew.

“To get into the third round is already the club’s biggest achievement but, to win this game and cause an upset, would be an historical moment for us.

“We would have liked a home draw as it is revenue for the club and the fans could have watched the game.

“We had around 300 at the last game and this would have pulled in at least another 100 I think but we came out of the hat away from home and against semi-professional opposition.

“It is also one of the furthest distances to travel so we only have around 20 fans coming with us on the team bus.

“But we will prepare for it leading up to game day and on the day and hopefully we will get everything right.”

And Askew admitted it would all come down to the performance, which is what coach Carl Hewer is concentrating on.

“As an amateur team in this competition, it is not always about the result, it is about performing, making a stand and showing we can compete against teams at this level,” added Askew.

“It is our first challenge against a semi-professional team so it is a massive occasion for players, fans and officials.

“And it is now particularly special with the BBC cameras showing the game on the website.”

Distington have seen off Leeds outfit Queens and National Conference League Division One side Lock Lane in previous rounds.

Askew believes they saved their best showing for the clash with the Castleford amateurs.

“We were quite confident for the first game that we could compete against Queens and we did and we won,” he said.

“Then we just seemed to step up again against Lock Lane.

"Our composure on the day and the way we played was probably one of our better performances in recent years with this team.

“Everyone was just over the moon and we deserved to be in the third round.”

Distington will have a strong squad for the clash, although the experienced Scott George will miss out through long-term injury.

The game will take place at Coventry’s Butts Park Arena on Sunday, ko 3pm.
