Skipper Gari Rowntree may make his long-awaited return for Workington Reds on Saturday against Hednesford Town, ko 3pm.

Rowntree has been missing since breaking his ankle in the play-off semi-final at Stourbridge at the end of last season.

But after recovering from the break and getting some game time with the Reserves he is now ready to make his way back into first team football.

"Gari should be back and available for selection," said Reds joint manager Dave Hewson.

"He has been upping his training and has had some game time with the Reserves.

"So now we need to look at getting some minutes on the pitch for us. He is not ready for the starting XI yet but we certainly hope he will feature."

Hewson is planning on keeping the same starting line-up from Tuesday night, when Reds won 5-2 against Altrincham to get their season back on track.

He was delighted with the boost it brought to the players' confidence and says the aim is now to stay consistent.

"We have to make sure we approach this game with exactly the same mentality and attitude we did on Tuesday," said Hewson.

"That result was the kick start for the rest of our season but we can't take anything for granted. We still have to play just as we did on Tuesday and hopefully we can get another result.

"The goals were always going to happen but it just took a lot longer than we thought.

"All credit to the squad and to the lads, especially Scott Allison who has done everything right except maybe get the ball in the back of the net.

"But it all came together on Tuesday and credit to them for believing in what we were doing as it was always going to come right.

"Consistency is now the key. We haven't managed to have that as much as we would have liked so it is now crucial."

Visitors to Borough Park, Hednesford Town have had some upheaval with a change in management and Hewson admits he is not sure what they will bring.

"Hednesford are going through a bit of a transition with a new manager coming in and obviously it is pretty early days for him," added Hewson.
