Proud Workington Reds boss Lee Andrews said he was 'gutted' for his players that they couldn't hold on to their lead as their FA Trophy tie against Bromley finished as a draw.

Reds were 1-0 ahead with just 11 minutes remaining when their Vanarama National League opponents equalised with a header from a corner.

In the end the tie finished 1-1 and will now go to a replay tomorrow night, with Reds facing the mammoth midweek trip to Kent to try and make it into the quarter-finals.

Andrews hailed every one of his players as heroes as they outplayed their higher league visitors for large periods of the game.

"Every single one of them were fantastic, I was just gutted for them that they couldn't hold on in the end," said Andrews.

"Because to be fair Bromley didn't create many chances and our lads defended brilliantly. The goal we conceded was a little bit sloppy but you can't blame anyone for their performance today.

"They looked dangerous on set pieces but apart from that we contained them quite well. We were the team that looked as though might get another goal really.

"The lads just kept on going and in the first half I thought we were unlucky not to be one up, then in the second half we set off really well and got the goal we deserved but it was just unfortunate we couldn't hang on a little bit longer.

"So it was a tough blow but we are still in the competition and we will go again on Tuesday."

A crowd of just under 900 flocked to Borough Park for the encounter and Andrews also had praise for the strong fan base.

"The fans backed the lads from the start and everyone got a lift with the goal and they were massive for us," he added.

The only real negative from the game was an injury to Scott Allison, who will have to be assessed ahead of the replay.

Allison limped off with a knee problem in the latter stages but Andrews is hoping he will be fit to play his part tomorrow night.

However the joint manager was still waiting to see how many of his players could get time off work to make the long trip.

But Reds will be in today's quarter-final draw, finding out who they will face if they can win the replay.

"We said at the start of the day we wanted to be in the hat come Monday and we are," said Andrews.

"The job is only half done and we know it will be difficult to go down there and get a result but we also know we are capable of doing it."
