In the end Workington Reds could not hold on to their hosts and crashed out of the FA Trophy at the hands of Bromley.

It was a brave effort from Workington who just come up against an in-form Bromley outfit that proved too hot to handle on the night.

Reds kept apace with their hosts for the majority of the first half but in the second half their frontmen caused too many problems.

Louis Dennis got the official man of the match and there were no arguments as he showed himself to be a class act.

The full-time National League side showed their superiority in a strong second half display after Reds held them to a narrow one goal advantage at the break.

Workington have had a great run in the competition and should be proud of their efforts against a powerful side.

It was certainly an action-packed start to this match with two goals within the opening six minutes.

Bromley looked to catch Reds cold after their mammoth bus journey to Kent for this tie and danger man Louis Dennis, who missed Saturday's tie, miss hit an early chance for the home side when he looked certain to score.

Bromley were showing their pace and the game was only four minutes old when they broke again, Brandon Hanlan controlled the ball well and slammed a shot past Aaran Taylor in the Reds goal and into the far corner.

But Reds had the perfect reply as they headed to the opposite end of the field and Scott Allison did well to hold up the ball before Nathan Waterston rifled it home to level, much to the delight of the small band of travelling support, who were vocal in their support.

Reds were under increasing pressure as shots were coming from all angles in a crowded goalmouth and it took a superb headed clearance off the line from Anthony Wright to save the day.

Dennis was proving a thorn in Reds' side as he took his chance with a well struck 25-yard effort which just sailed over the crossbar.

Jordan Holt saw a good effort saved by the home keeper David Gregory and then, at the opposite end Gari Ronwtree came in with a crucial block.

Dave Symington then battled to keep the ball before feeding Nathan Waterston and the youngster took on the defence before he rolled the ball in but straight to the keeper.

Scott Allison also got into space but he over stretched and his shot lacked power and trickled through to Gregory.

Reds had to make a substitution on the half hour mark as Rob Wilson came on for Josh Calvert who looked to be struggling with an injury.

But the visitors continued to press their hosts and Holt turned to feed Waterston across the face of the box however this time the shot was well wide of the target.

Symington then came in with a superb clearance as Bromley looked to get the upper hand.

But Reds were dangerous on the counter. Tinnion then showed his pace and footwork and he worked his way up the left hand side and let a shot fly. It had the goalkeeper diving but it whistled just the wrong side of the near post.

Bromley were getting back into the game after weathering a Reds storm and the visiting defence were being tested to their limits.

Taylor held a shot from George Porter at the second attempt and then collected another from Jordan Higgs as Bromley looked to regain the advantage.

Sam Smith forced Dennis out wide to deny another good opportunity and then blocked his shot, putting it out for a corner.

Bromley were dangerous from set pieces last weekend and so it proved again as Dennis looked to curl the corner into the area but it went one further and sneaked in at the top corner to give them the lead.

Reds tried to get back into it before half time with Tinnion getting a good cross in looking for the onrushing Jordan Holt but he just couldn't put it away and it was the hosts who have the advantage by one goal at the break.

Into the second half and Bromley were quickly out of their blocks and Reds were lucky not to see the scoreline widen.

The ball was allowed to go right across Taylor's goal where Josh Rees' shot went wide. Then Hanlon did the hard work to get a good cross in and it looked as though Porter just had to tap it home but he put it wide when it looked easier to score.

But it just seemed like a matter of time before the home side scored again and it came in the 53rd minute when George Porter rifled a shot past Taylor to go 3-1 ahead.

Anthony Wright came off to be replaced by Tommy Whitehead and Reds were still in the hunt but were finding it difficult up against a strong Bromley side on their own pitch.

A mix up at the back for Bromley nearly gave Reds a chance as Waterston raced in to challenge but the ball just went out for a throw-in to the home side.

Reds looked as though they were beginning to tire and it showed as Dennis fired another into the Workington net as they looked to take charge.

Unfortunately for Workington the home side only seemed to get better and this time Dennis turned provider for substitute Luke Wanadio who slammed the ball into the back of the net.

Bromley were beginning to rip their visitors apart on a regular basis and they were looking dangerous every time they broke down the field.

It was nearly six goals for Bromley but Taylor made a great save from Dennis to deny him his hat-trick.

The home side dominated possession and their fire power up front were in superb form.

But all credit to Workington as they tried to fight back with a great run from Holt. The ball was pulled into the centre where Allison struck a nice shot but it took a deflection to go out for a corner, which Bromley dealt with easily.

Then, with six minutes remaining, Bromley hammered home their advantage as Wanadio squared the ball to Jordan Higgs and he slammed the ball home for 6-1. And just before full time Tommy Holland made it seven to continue their journey in the competition.
