West Cumbrian utility back Lewis Brown will be a permanent fixture at Haven next season after signing a new deal.

The former Seaton amateur has put pen to paper on a two-year deal to keep him at the Recreation Ground until the end of 2019.

The youngster initially signed for Haven last season on loan from Salford, but then made his move permanent in April and impressed in his latter performances for the club.

Haven player-coach Carl Forster believes Brown has a lot of potential and is keen to see him continue to develop at the club.

“It’s great to get him on a two-year deal. He’s young and keen and I thought he had a great first season with us,” said Forster.

“He will only get better with more training and game time so we’re excited to see how far he will go.”

Brown made nine appearances in the chocolate, blue and gold last season.

And the ex-Salford Under-19 star says he has plenty more to learn from another term in League One with Haven.

Brown said: “I’m glad to have signed back on and I'm looking forward to learning more and developing more skills playing in this league.”

Brown went to Super League outfit Salford Red Devils as a 15-year-old when they spotted his talent.

He played at Under-16 level and then moved up to the Under-19s. But, when he should have been looking forward to a second season with the Under-19s, the club announced that they were not going to run an Academy side that year.

Brown then returned home to Cumbria and was snapped up by Whitehaven and he hasn’t looked back.

His signing is yet another for Forster in a busy spell as he looks to pull together a squad capable of fighting for promotion next season.
