Whitehaven and Barrow are set to do it all over again when the League One Eights start on July 30.

The Cumbrian rivals served up a derby cracker on Sunday and they will meet again at the Recreation Ground in the first game of the Supers Eights programme.

The 32-6 win clinched second spot for Haven and meant they would host the re-run in the Eights – but neither club probably envisaged it being so early on.

A crowd of more than 1,500 watched Sunday’s derby game and Haven are hopeful of bettering that when they meet again.

Whitehaven will conclude their Eights fixtures at local rivals Workington Town, who finished eighth, on Sunday, September 17.

The historic first visit to Canada to take on league leaders Toronto Wolfpack will be on Saturday, September 2.

Whitehaven’s only other away game in the Eights is at Doncaster on August 13.

The other home games are Newcastle (August 6), Keighley (August 20) and York (September 10).

Player-coach Carl Forster, still battered and bruised after Sunday’s clash with Barrow, is happy enough to be facing them right away.

“It’s a tough one to start with but we might as well get it out of the way," said Forster.

“I was very happy with how we performed (against Barrow) on Sunday and I hope we can maintain that throughout the Eights.

“There won’t be any easy games, so it will be a tough schedule, especially as we have to fit in a gruelling trip to Canada to play the best team in the tournament."

His aim throughout the Eights will be to retain second spot to ensure a home tie in the play-off semi-final.
