A Former Frizington family has completed a rare treble in the world of athletics.

Siblings Olivia, Anna and Seb Mason have all clinched their respective Cumbria cross-country age group titles on the same day at Carlisle’s Rickerby Park.

Olivia took the under-15 girls title in a time of 11 minutes and 55 seconds, over a minute clear of her nearest rival, Copeland AC’s Mia Easthope.

Younger sister Anna clinched the girls under-13 title in 10 minutes and 18 seconds in a tighter race, just 11 seconds separating her and second placed Olesia Winder.

But then their brother Seb decided to join in the fun, entering the event for the first time.

At just nine years old, he decided to stop watching his sisters and have a go himself.

A talented footballer, currently on the books of Carlisle United, the youngster has not ran seriously like his siblings.

But he shocked the field in the under-11 boys race, taking on competitors much older than him, to win the title.

Seb led from the front for most of the race and kept second placed Kai Hatcher at bay to win in six minutes and 28 seconds.

The girls were also part of the winning Border Harriers teams at their age groups.

Mum, Natalie Mason, herself a talented athlete, was delighted with the trio’s success.

She said: “Olivia was third in the whole race overall with just two boys ahead of her. And Anna did well at the top of her age group.

“Seb is always having to travel with us when the girls compete so I said to him did he want to run?

“He was only nine on November 30, just six weeks before the race and you have to be nine to run.

“He doesn’t normally run although he is fit through his football but he went out and beat lads two years older than him.

“He led from the front and set the platform for the others to follow.”

And it doesn’t stop here for the Mason family. Olivia and Anna will now go on to the North of England Cross-Country Championships at Knowsley Park on Saturday, January 28.

Back to the county championships and the other Copeland winner at the event was CFR’s Joseph Dugdale who took the U17 men’s title.
