The Summer League Darts Singles and Doubles play-off for the league championship drew a small but appreciative crowd last Friday.

Held alongside the league’s presentation night, there were some good darts on display.

First game on stage was the doubles semi-final between Mark Todhunter and Ged Kirkpatrick of the Lowther Club, against Kieron Timmins and Ben Pilkington of Hensingham ARLFC.

It was the young Hensingham pair who took the first leg, with Kieron hitting a maximum 180 to help.

But the more experienced Lowther duo came through with the more consistent darts, taking the next three legs to win the match 3-1 and move into the final.

The second semi-final again saw the experienced players, in the form of Shaun Savage and Paul Morris of Haven, against new boys from the Three Tuns Lee McKee and Mike Smith.

Again experience proved too good on the night, with Shaun and Paul winning 3-0.

The singles semi-finals, saw Kieron Timmins of HARLFC and David Addison of Haven play-off.

This match went the distance with both players throwing some wonderful darts. In the final game of five, both players had darts to claim the match before Kieron finally hit the double to win the match 3-2 and move into the final.

The second semi was between Mike Smith of the Three Tuns and Gary Quinn of Haven.

This also went all the way to the final leg where nerves seem to affect both players and the final double took time to be claimed.

But it was Gary who held his nerve to checkout on double one to move himself into the final.

The doubles final was a classic with games going with the throw all the way to the seventh leg, where the Haven duo’s concentration seem to fail them.

Lowther Club’s Mark and Ged stepped in and took full advantage to check out on the final leg to win 4-3 and claim the title of Summer League Doubles Champions 2017.

Next on stage was the singles final. This turned out to be an exhibition of darts from HARLFC’s Kieron who powered into a 3-0 lead and looked unstoppable.

Even with Haven’s Gary taking the fourth leg with a 104 finish, it was not enough to stop the charge and Kieron went on to win the next leg and the match 4-1.

The presentation followed for the night’s event and also all the league prizes and trophies.

The league thanked all teams who donated prizes for the raffle.
