Matt Gee looks set to extend his loan deal at Workington Town this week.

The club has been in talks with Salford following the end of the forward's initial one-month period last weekend.

And signs are looking positive that the youngster will be around to bolster the Town ranks for their trip to Sheffield on Saturday.

Coach Phil Veivers said: "We are hoping it will be sorted this week, it is all looking promising.

"He is keen to stay and Salford are keen to let him so we just need to sort everything out."

Gee has stood out in the one-month loan with some solid performances, especially in the last game at Halifax.

Veivers is hopeful that he will finally have players to choose from for the trip to the Eagles as his injury list begins to dwindle.

The only real doubts lie over centre Jason Mossop and loose-forward Karl Olstrom.

Mossop is still not 100 per cent after injuring his hamstring and Veivers is set to wait and see how he goes in training this week.

Olstrom is also to be assessed as he continues to recover from damaged ankle ligaments.

"I will have more of an idea at training tonight but we are looking pretty good," added Veivers.

"There are doubts over Jason Mossop and Karl Olstrom but Latu Fifita is not too far away now either.

"He has been going okay in training over the last couple of weeks.

"So this all gives me a great headache when I go to pick the side, which is what I want."

Meanwhile Sheffield boss Mark Aston could see the return of Papua New Guinea international Garry Lo against Town.

Lo has endured a frustrating start to his Sheffield Eagles’ career with a dislocated shoulder restricting him to just two appearances for his new club.

“We have seen in his fleeting appearances what he can do,” Aston added.

“He showed glimpses against Bradford and it has been frustrating not to have had him available.

“I am hoping he will be right for Workington – it depends on how the injection goes. If the cortisone settles the swelling down then he could very well be in line for a return on Saturday.”
