Cleator Moor Celtic are hoping to repeat their past Shipowners Charity Cup success this weekend when they tackle Richmond in this year’s final.

The two sides will clash at Earls Orchard Playing Field on Saturday as Celtic look to capitalise on a successful season.

And Celtic will be going into the game with plenty of confidence after winning 22 games out of 24 in 2017 which saw them leap up the Wearside League table.

After floundering in 15th place at Christmas, they went on a winning streak to move up to third where they finished.

Manager Dene White said: “This year has been another tough but fully committed season for us. We didn’t start well back in August and by Christmas we found ourselves in 15th.

“Going into 2017 we had a lot to do and the players more than did that. We went 22 league games unbeaten and finished the league in third – the second time we have done that in my five years with the first team. The other three seasons we finished fourth.”

Celtic travelled to Richmond a few weeks ago and ran out 4-2 winners but that counts for nothing on Saturday afternoon (2pm). White will have selection problems as he has virtually a fully-fit squad with only Ryan Hall injured and Johnny Donat away.

And after winning the trophy back in 2013, White would love to see Celtic return home with the silverware once again.

“I’m hoping that we can repeat our Shipowners success when we go to Richmond on Saturday,” added White.

“It is a tough task but the players have had a couple of weeks to rest and we have prepared well. I know they will be giving their all to try and bring the cup back to Cleator Moor.”
