South Wales win big boost for confidence, says Whitehaven RL boss

Whitehaven coach Don Gailer was delighted at his side’s performance at South Wales Scorpions yesterday.
A 34-0 win put Haven on equal points with Rochdale Hornets and within sniffing distance of a top four place and the Australian says that this result is the boost his side wanted.
“It was a good tradesmanlike effort from us,” he said. “We came down here to get three points. All week we spoke about our discipline and did a lot of work on our structure.
“Today the boys held that right throughout the match and our discipline was outstanding. It was the win that we need for a confidence boost especially by keeping a clean sheet.
“For me it was the little blokes that stood out. Ben Karalius, Sammy Gee and Carl Sice dug really deep but they were supported well by everyone else in the 17.”
There was a surprise selection at stand-off with Sice selected away from his regular hooker position.
“I was always going to use him there and he did a good job,” Gailer said. “Later on in the game I swapped him with Sammy.
“They brought different energies to the position with the changeover and they were both successful no matter where they played. They followed the kicks well and they were dangerous in attack.
“I wish South Wales all the best and they don’t deserve to be getting on the end of high scorelines, but today was about getting on the front foot for us and starting a winning feeling in the group. It was about us getting the little things right and we achieved that extremely well.
“Everyone in the dressing room was happy and unfortunately we’ve got to wait two weeks for another game. We didn’t want a week off after putting in a performance like that.
“Everyone was sensational out there.
“I could go through the whole team naming star players, it was that kind of game.”
