Valley Primary’s head on the spirit within school
WHITEHAVEN’S Valley Primary School welcomed new headteacher Tim Lee only a few weeks ago, but the South African – who has over 14 years’ experience as a headteacher – said it was the strength and spirit of the school which attracted him to West Cumbria.

Easing the move into a bewildering world
THE teacher from a Workington comprehensive school was worried. He was about to bring 150 11- and 12-year-olds to Tom’s Midnight Garden, the 2010 Christmas show at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, and most of them had never been to the theatre before.

Putting quarts into pint pots
IT’S that time again – a new academic year. I look at the audience at my first assembly, expectant and nervous, smart in their new shoes and clothes, knowing that they had to be dragged out of bed after a long summer away from classrooms – but enough about the members of staff. The students don’t look bad either, and although they pretend otherwise, most of them are pleased to be back, seeing their friends again, and yes, to be “differently exercising” their grey matter.

ROBOT DUCKS SHOW FUN SIDE OF SCIENCE
ROBOT ducks and golf ball cannons were the highlight of the day for 100 primary school pupils at a science fair at Lakes College, organised to show the children the fun side of science and engineering.
