Kevin Weaver, who is an artist and former war photojournalist, uses the Tudor-themed hideaway to create artwork, store his paintings and enjoy the stunning views.

The complete loft revamp took place about 18 months ago, as the artist wanted to create a professional working area in his home.

Kevin says he looked at numerous options including erecting an art space in his back yard, but decided to convert the loft instead.

He says: "It was just an empty loft with ten bags of rubbish in it. I cleaned it myself."

Work was carried out to paint the room white with black beams to give it a Tudor feel, says Kevin.

He adds: "I have an amazing view of Ennerdale. The large window allows it gets a lot of natural light.

"It's a great use of space that would otherwise be empty.

"The eaves slope where I store the paintings. It's about a two-metre by three-metre space. The acoustics are good in there and I love to have a place where I can write songs and poetry."

The views themselves are an inspiration to Kevin.

He says: "It's fantastic in the evening. The Ennerdale hills go pink and you can see all the beautiful fells. You get a 180 degree view of the whole of Ennerdale."

The Lake District provides him with flowing creative ideas, he says.

Kevin also creates artwork inspired by his former work as a photojournalist and war correspondent.

The artist, who moved to the area from London a few years ago, used to be a freelance war correspondent for The Independent, The Guardian and the New Statesman. He has used his experiences as a starting point for his work.

Kevin has been painting for about three years and says he is experimenting with styles.

He uses a variety of media including wax oil paint, silicone and glazes to create his work.

His work is available at Lowes Court Art Gallery in Egremont, Framed in Whitehaven, Tarantella in Cockermouth, Gallery Artemis in Cockermouth and Viridian in Keswick.
