Saving the deposit to get on the property ladder can be daunting for first-time buyers, but a brand new home in Cockermouth can be secured with a deposit as low as £8,747 using the Government’s Help to Buy initiative.

Lovell Homes, currently building more than 200 new homes at The Laureates, is hosting a special event there on Saturday, April 29, to offer advice for first-time home buyers on the Help to Buy initiative which can make home ownership a reality.

There will be mortgage specialists on hand from Chartwell Mortgage Services between 11am to 4pm to provide free and independent financial advice and simple explanations of the steps involved in buying a home with Help to Buy.

Clare Noakes, regional sales director at Lovell, said: “With prices starting from an affordable £174,950, it’s no surprise that many of the new homes at The Laureates have so far been purchased by first-time buyers, with the support of Help to Buy.

“Our event is a great opportunity for those who have been considering buying a home, to come along and discuss their options with an independent financial adviser, as well as a chance to take a look around the three stunning showhomes and speak to our sales executives.”

John Bennett, consultant at Chartwell Mortgage Services, said: “Help to Buy has already given thousands of home buyers a helping hand to achieve home ownership. We’ll be on hand at the event to provide free and impartial advice to other potential home buyers about the scheme, how it works and how it can help them buy a brand new home.”

Among the homes now available is the two-bedroom Betjeman, priced from £174,950. With a Help to Buy: Equity Loan, a 5% deposit of just £8,747.50 is all that’s required. The homeowner requires a mortgage for 75% of the property value and the Government will provide an equity loan to cover the remaining 20%, which is interest-free for five years.

This elegant semi-detached home offers contemporary living with an open-plan and spacious living/dining room to the rear of the home and patio doors overlooking the garden. The high-spec kitchen, cloakroom and storage complete the ground-floor layout. Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms and the main bathroom.

The three-bedroom semi-detached Davenant, priced from £229,950, is also ideal for first-time buyers and families. With a Help to Buy: Equity Loan, it can be purchased with an initial customer deposit of just £11,497.50.

The Davenant is a spacious home, with the entrance hallway leading off to the bright and airy kitchen/diner which has been finished to the highest standards, and the spacious living room, with French doors overlooking the garden.

There are three roomy bedrooms upstairs, the master boasting an en-suite, as well as the family bathroom.

The Laureates is a collection of 217 new homes set among extensive landscaping and boasting outstanding views of the Lake District. Within walking distance of Cockermouth town centre, there is a wide selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties ideally suited to buyers at every stage of life.
