Pensioner pulled to ground as handbag stolen in Barrow

A PENSIONER was pulled to the ground as her handbag was stolen in Barrow town centre.

Police said the 69-year-old woman was walking along Preston Street when a man approached her from behind and allegedly grabbed her bag.

She fell to the ground, suffered minor injuries and was left shaken by the incident.

The culprit is said to have made off in the direction of Dalton Road.

The man is described as being around 30-years-old, of medium build, and five feet seven inches tall.

He had shaven hair and wore a white tracksuit with dark-coloured stripes down each arm and horizontal stripes around the bottom.

He also wore three-quarter-length beige pants and white trainers.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about the incident, which happened around 11.50pm on Friday (Aug 10), is asked to contact Barrow CID on 101.

  • A 36-year-old Barrow man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and has been bailed.
