That’s swan way to get across...

SIR – I was driving home from work on Friday around 4.10pm, on one of those rare warm sunny days in July!
NOT A PELICAN CROSSING... The family of swans crossing the road from Mirehouse Pond, pictured by Rose Wilson
As I drove along Mirehouse road near the entrance to the pond, this swan family emerged from the sidings. Luckily I was able to capture this happy family scene on my camera phone.
The picture doesn’t show much of a traffic jam but moments after taking it, the swans decided to sit down in the road, and within a few seconds, large queues of traffic built up either side of them.
I managed to carefully get by them, but I’m not sure how long they lingered or how they were dispersed!
