Youngsters needed to help plan film festival

YOUNGSTERS are being invited to help plan a two-day film festival at Rosehill Theatre which takes place next month.
Anyone with an interest in films, marketing and publicity are being invited to get on board with this event, being organised through Inspira.
The two-day festival will showcase a variety of films chosen for and by young people. It will be held at the Rosehill Theatre in the October half-term holiday on Wednesday, October 31, and the following day.
Mike Priestley, of Inspira (formerly Connexions), said: “We are trying to get together a group of young people interested in planning what films to put on. They will be doing market research to see what young people want to watch and will then organise the event.”
He says anyone interested should get in touch with Inspira or Rosehill Theatre as soon as possible. Some young people from the People Interested In Performing Stuff (Pips) group and members of Copeland’s Youth council are involved but organisers are looking for more young planners to get involved.
Mike said: “We are looking for young people who want to get experience of organising an event, who have an interest in film or marketing and publicity. We are not asking for a huge amount of time, just two or three planning sessions and activities and then come along in the half term.”
Discussions will take place about what films will be shown, possible viewing times and other aspects of the festival experience.
Mike said: “The Youth Council met with councillors and MP Jamie Reed a few months and said about the lack of a cinema in Whitehaven. There are difficulties for young people going to Dunmail Park to go to the cinema as it can be quite costly for them. We want to see if young people would go along to the theatre if films that were aimed at them were shown. It may get to the stage where this becomes a regular event.”
