Would-be police commissioners tell us why they want your vote

RESIDENTS go to the polls today to elect their first ever police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Cumbria.
The candidate voted into the £65,000-a-year role will have powers to hire and fire chief constables and set police objectives and budgets.
The votes will be counted in Kendal tomorrow.
The elected PCCs will replace police authorities across England and Wales. The successful candidate will be in post until May 2016.
The salary range has been adjusted by the Home Office to represent differences in force weighting and policing challenges and has been aligned but is not equal to chief constable salaries.
Cumbria’s £65,000 salary is the joint lowest in the country. The successful candidates for the areas of West Midlands, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester will all receive the highest – £100,000 per year.
A schedule is now being drawn up for Cumbria’s PCC to meet police, the public and key players in the county in their first months in charge.
Plans are also being developed for early talks on how to deliver their manifesto, with the new force chief being given in-depth crime data as they take on the role.
Meanwhile, the outgoing head of the authority has paid tribute to the work of members and staff. Chairman Ray Cole was speaking as the authority held its final public meeting before the election of the new PCC. He said: “Cumbria continues to be one of the safest places to live, work and visit. We will leave a newly elected police and crime commissioner in a very strong position when they take office.”

Thisd has been a very poor information giving poll, A lot of people do not have the internet in this community so have not got a clue who these people are andso will not vote. I also believe they should not be affiliatedto any political party
