Window smashed

HUNDREDS of pounds of damage was caused after a man recklessly smashed a window, a court has heard.
Anthony Dean, 35, of St James Court, Whitehaven, has admitted the criminal damage offence.
He has been ordered to pay £254.74 compensation to the Carr-Gomm Society, an organisation that provides supported housing for people. Dean must also pay £85 court costs.
Whitehaven magistrates heard that police received reports that a window which had not been opened for about two years had been smashed.
Neil Pilling, for Dean, said: “The defendant received a call from his ex-girlfriend to go to her house.
“When he arrived she wasn’t there, but had left the door open for him.
“He tried to shut the window but he used more force than he should have. In shutting the window, the glass broke.
“While he didn’t mean to do it, he does admit he was reckless.”
