Who Nuclear Management Partners are
Last updated at 11:57, Friday, 11 July 2008
Nuclear Management Partners Ltd is a joint venture comprising URS Corporation - Washington Division, AMEC and AREVA.
URS Corporation - Washington Division (formerly Washington Group International) is a provider of planning, engineering design, construction, technical, management, and operations and maintenance services to public and private sector clients worldwide.
It employs 25,000 people. Washington and URS are the main sponsors of Whitehaven Rugby League.
AMEC's history can be traced back over 100 years in the UK, to parent companies Matthew Hall and Leonard Fairclough. In 1982, William Press and Fairclough construction groups merged to form AMEC plc. In 1988, in order to expand its UK and international operations significantly, AMEC bought the Matthew Hall Group of companies. After the acquisition, AMEC had over 30,000 employees spread across the UK, America and Europe. Major projects included the building of Hong Kong airport - voted one of the top 10 construction achievements of the 20th century. AMEC has been long associated with projects on the Sellafield site.
AREVA, the French nuclear reactor manufacturer, aims to dominate the next wave of UK nuclear power ‘new build’ after receiving government assurances last month that its goal of supplying the technology for all the nation’s new reactors would not breach competition rules.
