FROM winning votes to losing pounds, three Whitehaven councillors have taken on a fundraising weight-loss challenge.

Slimming down: Three councillors hoping to lose weight are (l to r) Mike Hawkins , Allan Forster and Phil Greatorex .

Phil Greatorex and Allan Forster (Copeland councillors for Bransty and Hensingham respectively) and Mike Hawkins (county councillor for Mirehouse) are inviting people to match every pound they lose with a pound donation to Howgill Family Centre.

Coun Greatorex said: “All civic leaders need to give a voice to promoting healthy lives and well-being in our communities by, first and foremost, getting involved and setting a good example.

“Given the recent headline health statistics for Copeland, we are personally committed to losing weight and in the process, obtaining sponsorship.

“In this instance the focus is on us males because it is well known we are at particular risk of developing health-related illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, heart disease and strokes due to being overweight.

“Although each of us measure up differently, we are all keen to shed sufficient weight and achieve a normal Body Mass Index by the end of the summer. ”

To offer sponsorship contact either of the councillors personally, or Coun Greatorex though the Bransty Facebook page.
