Weather scuppers final Lakes Alive event
Last updated at 07:31, Tuesday, 28 August 2012
AN aerial acrobatic and dance performance over Whitehaven Harbour had to be cancelled on Monday night because the wind and rain made conditions unsafe for performers.
Lakes Alive organisers decided it would be unsafe for it to go ahead as the performance was to feature climbers and dancers being suspended 40 metres in the air by a giant crane, as well as live music, musicians, circus performers, and visual artists.
A fireworks display planned to start after the performance was also cancelled.
This was to have been the last of Lakes Alive’s events in Copeland this summer, following the banquets in Millom and Cleator Moor. They were funded as part of the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympics Games, taking place in Copeland.
The events were staged by Lakes Alive in partnership with Copeland Borough Council and supported by Copeland Community Fund.

Sorry it was cancelled couldnt do anything else but safety first after the brilliant display at Keswick was looking forward to Whitehaven but not to be. The last 4 years of lakes alive have been fantastic displays

Have your say
I am not surprised it was cancelled the weather was terible from morning until night.
