Warmth fund to help the elderly this winter

CUMBRIA Community Foundation’s Winter Warmth Fund Appeal has been launched this week.

Now in its third year, the appeal helps reduces fuel poverty, and those struggling to heat their homes, by asking for community donations.

Some of the money comes from older people who donate their government Winter Fuel Payment.

Andy Beeforth, director of Cumbria Community Foundation, said: “In the first year we raised and distributed a pot of £10,000. Last year our donations quadrupled, bringing in £42,000 which directly helped 433 pensioners in need. We’re hoping people will be generous so we can help even more older people this winter.”

To donate to The Winter Warmth Fund: Go online www.justgiving.com/winterwarmthfund

Send a text message to 70070 including our code WINT37 e.g. WINT37 £5 to 70070. You can donate £2, £5 or £10.

Or send a cheque to ‘Cumbria Community Foundation’ and write ‘Winter Warmth’ on the back. Please return your cheque and this form to: Cumbria Community Foundation, Dovenby Hall, Dovenby, Cockermouth, Cumbria, CA13 0PN.
