TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a nine-year-old described as a ‘live wire’ by his family.

Rylan Cosgrove died on Tuesday of last week as a result of complications following an asthma attack in his Millom home.

Rylan, a pupil at Black Combe Junior School, was taken to Furness General Hospital, in Barrow, where he sadly died.

He was described by his mum, Julie, as a “live wire”.

She said: “Rylan was popular boy with lots of friends, he enjoyed his sport and was a keen rugby player, playing for both Millom rugby league and union teams.

“He also played football and his room displayed the many trophies that he had won.

“Rylan adored his little brother, Hayden.”

Rylan’s family said he will be “sorely missed”.

Educational psychologists have been working with staff and pupils at Black Combe Junior School following Rylan’s death and prayers were said in a special assembly.

Helen Webber, head teacher at Black Combe Junior School, paid tribute to a hard-working, popular pupil.

She said: “Rylan was a happy and enthusiastic member of our Year 5. He was a wonderfully mannered, hard-working and creative pupil who really enjoyed his sports and was a proficient rugby player.

“He was popular with both children and staff and had many friends who will miss him greatly.

“This shocking event has affected the whole school community and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this terrible time.”

Rylan was a member of both Millom Mini-Rugby League Club and Millom Mini-Rugby Union Football Club.

A minute’s applause was held in memory of Rylan by a 300-strong crowd which gathered to watch Millom RLFC’s Challenge Cup clash on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out but police said Rylan’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Saturday’s tribute, before Millom’s clash with Gloucester University, was also held in memory of Tommy Murning, 40, and Eric Fallows, 90, both from Millom, who also passed away last week.
