Treasury’s green light for hospital

WEST Cumberland Hospital’s £90million redevelopment has finally been approved by the Treasury – but community leaders are still warning there must be no further downgrading of services.
An acquaintance has told me his appointment at Carlisle hospital has been scheduled for 9am. He has to travel from Whitehaven and negotiate the abysmal local bus 'service'. One way of would-be patients cancelling appointments at Carlisle, travelling from Whitehaven, is to appoint early in the morning, the threat being that if they can't keep their appointment at the appointed time is that their re-appointment will be at a time in the future of an indeterminate time. NHS saving money comes in more forms than the obvious. Yes, abysmal for the second time.
And about time too! West Cumberland Hospital is one of the oldest (and smallest) NHS 24 hour hospitals in the UK. It covers a huge geographic area and the facilities are not up to the job as they are. This is great news. I hope that all the labour provided to construct the new hospital is sourced locally and not shipped in.

Have your say
Finally!!!!
