TEA’S UP: Tracey Smith, right, and Lucy McGlennon are hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party at Lowca Rugby Club to raise much-needed funding for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

By Julie Morgan

Held at Lowca Rugby League Club, the event has been organised by Tracey Smith, who has sold 100 tickets as part of a national fundraising push.

Tracey had previously volunteered to collect for Marie Curie. She said: “When I read about the tea parties I thought ‘I can do that, and in style!’’’

Tracey also has a personal reason for organising the event on June 29 as her dad was diagnosed with cancer in January.

“This is a charity close to my heart. So many people have been supportive and helpful.”

The event is sold out but if anyone wants to give raffle prizes and donations then “all the better’’, Tracey added.

In total, Marie Curie spends over £93 million a year on providing care as well as research and development.
