Top teamwork is celebrated at awards night

CLEATOR Moor’s successful Neighbourhood Watch scheme has earned a coveted community award.

Alan Willison and Jackie Rafferty, the police community support officers (PCSOs) behind the scheme, were recognised for their hard work at the West Cumbria Community Partnership Awards on Friday night.

In addition to PCSOs Willison and Rafferty, all Copeland-based PCSOs received an award for their success in tackling youth anti-social behaviour and helping to turn young people into good community citizens, through schemes like the successful Junior PCSO programme.

A total of 17 awards were handed out at the event at Cleator Moor Civic Hall on Friday night, held to recognise the good work that is taking place and the organisations that make a difference to their communities.

Another recipient of an award was Sneckyeat Residents’ Association, which has been established for over 15 years and, in that time, has organised days out, bingo sessions, talks, visits and family fun days – all for the benefit of the residents of the estate and the surrounding areas.

Other West Cumbria-wide schemes to receive community awards were: Emergency Services Alcohol Project, Independent Domestic Violence Advisors Initiative, Cumbria Community Messaging, West Cumbria Pubwatch, The Know Project, Prevent and Deter, The Responsible Authorities Partnership and The Stay Safe Initiative.

The overall winner was the Maryport-based Hillside Management Team, which has worked to welcome new Polish families to the estate.
