Tom wins award for his quality workmanship

EGREMONT painting and decorating contractor, Tom Greening, has won a prestigious industry award for his work on the historic engines at Tower Bridge in London.

Tom picked up the industrial category prize at the Painting and Decorating Association’s Premier Trophy Awards held at London’s historic Painters’ Hall.

His quality workmanship on the unusual painting contract wowed the PDA’s judges, who declared Tom’s work as “something special – workmanship at its best” following a site visit.

They concluded: “The finishes are faultless, right down to the smallest detail, and are a pleasure to see. The machinery presented its own problems of access and preparation, all of which were overcome with pride and an eye for detail.

“These historic engines used for many years to allow shipping to reach higher waters of the Thames River are in public view and their refurbishment needed a skilled hand in their preparation and repainting.”

Tom has won PDA honours going back several years. He said: “Winning a PDA award is always an honour as it is the pinnacle for the painting and decorating industry.

“It was a very unusual job as the engines are on permanent public display in the Tower Bridge exhibition hall, but we are specialists in the use of historic paints having worked on many stately homes and historic buildings.”

Neil Ogilvie, national president of the PDA, said: “The PDA Premier Trophy Awards recognise the highest standards in the industry and Tom Greening demonstrated great craftsmanship, skill and expertise in the work at Tower Bridge.”
