The Enemy to headline At The Playground

THE Enemy will headline this summer’s At The Playground festival, The Whitehaven News can exclusively reveal.
The chart-topping indie stars will rock the two-day live music extravaganza which takes place in Whitehaven on May 17/18.
The festival will also be headlined by a star-studded line-up including Sound of Guns, The Farm, 12 Dirty Bullets, The Book Club, The Moon Kids – with more huge names to be added soon.
Danny Maudling, of event organisers The Mighty Boof, said: “Bringing The Enemy back to Whitehaven was a no-brainer. They are a worthy headline act for any festival, and we jumped at the chance to get them again. And Sound of Guns are probably the act that everyone wanted to return after last year’s At The Playground.”
The Enemy’s debut, We’ll Live and Die in These Towns, went straight to number one in the album chart in 2007 and follow-ups, Music for the People and Streets In The Sky, made it to number two and nine respectively. Their show is set to include their greatest hits including Away From Here and You’re Not Alone.
The Farm have enjoyed a more-than-20-year career at the top, including number one album Spartacus, and iconic singles All Together Now and Groovy Train.
Other headliners across the five stages include Micky P Kerr, Deadbeat Echoes, See Emily Play, The Wulfs, The Last Party, The 10:04s and The Carnabells, alongside the best on the local music and DJ scene.
The Boof’s David Eldon said: “As far as support billing goes, it’s probably the best we have ever done, and it’s a very forward-thinking line-up as, in a few years’ time, these bands will be our headliners.”
It takes place at Whitehaven Rugby Union and Cricket Club, with some proceeds going to both clubs. Sponsorship has been provided by Copeland Community Fund.
Tickets are £35 for the whole weekend, £27 for the Saturday only, £20 for the Friday only. An under-12s day ticket is £5 and toddlers free.

I disagree. I think that it's a fair old coup getting people and bands like these to come here, we're a long way from London don't forget!
I would like to see more of these Indie and alternative bands here though, bands like Haime, The Palma Violets, The Big Herons or Ratking. These are the stars of the future and I'd be VERY eager to watch Haime in Whitehaven or to see Big Herons around these parts.View all 4 comments on this article

I went to see The Enemy twice on their most recent tour and they were wonderful both times! The weather couldn't have been more extreme but even that couldn't spoil it. The first time it ws red hot sunshine but the second time it was pouring! I couldn't get the soft top on my TR7 and I was drenched.
