That's one 'L' of a way to raise funds!

A ST BEES driving instructor has come up with an ‘L’ of a way to raise money for charity.

Vidya Nichols has had her long hair cut off and had an L-plate shaved into her head.

She aims to raise £1,000 for the Henderson Suite at West Cumberland Hospital.

This is her latest of three head shaves for charity and she hopes to raise as much money as possible for a cause close to her heart. Both her parents died from cancer and her sister also developed breast cancer which was successfully treated.

She said: “Just about everyone I know has had a family member or friend affected by cancer. They supported me when my mother passed away. Because I’ve been so close to it, I understand how fantastic these people are.”

Vidya is part of the West Cumbria Driving Association, which regularly raises funds for local causes. She said: “We’re trying to do our bit. We try to get together and raise funds as well as raise awareness about road safety.”

Vidya went to the Workington British Legion Club where she was joined by members of the association for this latest fundraiser.

She said: “Since I’ve had my hair done, people have been coming up to me and giving me money.”

To raise more money for the cause, Vidya has also sent her hair to a wig-making company. Vidya said: “Everyone has been so supportive. Driving instructors across the area have all had sponsor forms.”

Other fundraisers have also recently taken place, including the association raising £765 for the air ambulance.
