Talented teenagers take to the stage

GIFTED teenagers are set to perform at the So You Think You’ve Got Talent contest next Friday evening.
An evening of performances will take place at Rosehill Theatre and feature 14 acts, including indie groups, solo singers, musicians and variety acts such as magicians.
The event is sponsored by Rosehill and Inspira (formerly Connexions).
This is the second year the contest is being held. Mike Priestley, from Inspira, who was one of last year’s judges, said: “The judges and audience saw a brilliant level of talent last year and we were so impressed by the performances. I was amazed at what a hotbed of talent we had in this area and at how difficult our decisions were.
“Anybody wanting a good night out that will really cheer them up needs to get along to this, it’s brilliant.”
Performers at this year’s event include: Balmoral Road, Cinnamon – recent winners of Battle of the Bands in Paint the Town Red, Wonderboy and the Wolf, and Sarah Dockeray with an electric ukulele. Amy Morton will also be showcasing her talents as well as a solo performance from Liam Miller who won last year as part of the St Benedict’s Glee Club. They will be competing for an overall award and other prizes.
Mike said the evening is organised by the People Interested in Performing (PiPs), a youth group who get involved in activities around Rosehill to encourage young people to visit the theatre.
The group works to develop their interests and skills in things such as marketing and design alongside some performing for those who want to do it. They are using the talent night to fund raise for a trip to the Edinburgh Festival.
The group is supported by Inspira staff and Tom Salmon from Rosehill.
Tom said: “Our PiPs group has been great for the theatre. They’ve got lots of ideas and energy and they have a great time on all sorts of projects.”
Tickets are £5, available from 01946 692422, or from Inspira, Roper Street, or on the door. The performance starts at 7.30pm.
