The man, who police wanted to question over several offences, locked himself in a house on Lincoln Road and threatened to harm himself.
Officers closed off the area to prevent the public from being harmed.
A trained police negotiator attempted to resolve the situation, however, the man did not co-operate.
Officers wearing protective clothing entered the house and arrested him. The man is being detained at Workington police station.
No other persons were sought in this incident.
Police said they want to thank the public for their support in this incident.
