Starstruck kids gear up for summer showcase

STARSTRUCK Youth Theatre wants to make performing arts accessible to all.

By Mark White

The Egremont group started in January and now “strives to help children of all talents reach their full potential in performing arts”.

Starstruck is a project that delivers skills including dance, drama, music, singing, set, costume, backstage and management, along with trips to professional shows and events.

Director, Charlotte Kelly, said: “The group is run by both adults and young leaders. We have a leaders’ programme that focuses on young adults aged 16-18 coming in to volunteer their skills.

“We have two dance teachers, one singer/musician, a director and organisation manager.

“We try to cater for a wide range of talents in order to give the children a variety of disciplines and styles.

“This programme also gives teenagers the opportunity to connect with the local community and give them vital experience for both job and university applications.”

Rehearsals have been ongoing since January leading up to a showcase in June and ultimately a December performance of Dick Whittington.

The group rehearse in Egremont Market Hall every Saturday from 1pm to 3pm with all equipment provided including ballet and tap shoes, T-shirts and dance costumes.

Age groups range are six to 16 and 16 to 19 years. For further information contact Anita Kelly on 01946 825680.
