Stars set to shine at The Stadium

A STAR-STUDDED line-up has been secured for the hotly-anticipated At The Stadium music festival in Whitehaven.

by Andrew Clarke

Reverend and the Makers, Goldie Lookin’ Chain, and Space are among the headliners that will rock The Mighty Boof’s Cumbria Sports Academy event on May 23 and 24.

Also on the packed bill are Twisted Wheel, John Power (of Cast and The La’s fame), Dexters, The Lottery Winners, The 45s, Tom Hingley, Jolan (plus band), Colt 45 and Sound of Guns’ Andrew Metcalfe.

The headliners – joined by the best on the local scene – will be spread across three stages.

The Boof’s David Eldon said: “A lot of festivals have given up this year; it’s a real shame. We need local support this year more than ever.

“That being said, nobody owes us the price of a ticket so we’ve picked an excellent festival site to make the event better, and tried to put together a line-up that will sell this one out. I really think we’ve achieved that.”

The Boof is the team behind three successful At The Playground events at Whitehaven Rugby Union Club that ran from 2011 to 2013. The team has relocated to the stadium this year to avoid the waterlogging problems that beset last year’s festival.

The Boof’s Danny Maudling said: “We really wanted to make the experience better this year and the new site is perfect for us and the customers.

“We have reduced the capacity this year, so there may be a few disappointed people if they try and buy tickets late.”

A new addition this year is a dance tent, which will see the launch of GRU, a regular local electronic dance music (EDM) night from DJ Chris Lockie. The popular Mighty Boof Boom Box, to entertain those gathered outdoors, will make a return.

David added: “It’s a new, fresh outlook to have EDM at the festival, so running an outdoor stage all day and a tent showcasing local DJs and a locally-run night seems the logical step.”

Tickets are £20 for the Friday, £27 for the Saturday, or £35 for the weekend and are available from Threads, Whitehaven (01946 690008), Alauna Salon, Maryport (01900 812327) or Four Play Cycles, Cockermouth (01900 823377) or online at www.mightyboofatthestadium.com.
