Stand by for a new- look Whitehaven News
Last updated at 11:27, Thursday, 06 February 2014
FROM next week, The Whitehaven News will be printed in a compact format.
We’ve been a broadsheet newspaper ever since we were founded in 1852.
But a survey of readers’ opinions last year showed that the time was right to change our format.
In effect it means your weekly News will be half the height, half the width but with more than twice the pages.
Not only will our shape change but we will introduce more news and opinion pages, plus a closer look at parish news up and down the borough, more news from elsewhere in Cumbria and a great sports results service.
Editor Colin Edgar said: “It’s a monumental step but one which we are sure our readers will enjoy.
“We aim to give even greater value with a broader news service, and we listened to readers when they told us how uncomfortable it could be to read a broadsheet edition. Roll on next week!”

Have your say
If it is half the height and half the width then it is quarter the previous size,so would need to have 4 times as many pages, all other things like margins and font sizes remaining equal. So if there are only twice as many pages, you've lost half of it. Just like Whitehaven itseld really. How SAD.
Oh no! The size just now fits our cage perfectly, we love a nice (well read) Whitehaven News for our carpet. What to do??????
