Stadium fallout: The Rugby Football League
Last updated at 11:28, Thursday, 03 May 2012
I AM personally aware that in recent weeks both Copeland Borough Council and the RFL , alongside the other project partners, have devoted a great deal of focus to this project in the hope that it could be brought to a successful conclusion in time to host the 2013 Rugby League World Cup event .
As we all now know, our efforts to achieve that goal have unfortunately concluded without the outcome which we all sought. It is certainly a major disappointment to the RFL.
Over these weeks of my close involvement, I have worked with my colleagues at Copeland, investing much time and effort in trying to achieve our goal and during this period, I was grateful for the great energy which the council demonstrated within the partnership, in trying to achieve our mutual objective.
Hopefully at some point in the future this stadium project will eventually be brought to fruition and if so, the RFL would be delighted for all concerned. We are pleased that work on this is already progressing.
