Arran George, 18, will attend the London-based Institute of Contemporary Music Performance from September.

The interview process required Arran to play some of his own tracks live to a judging panel.

The Institute has been the start of many careers including famous names such as vocalist Loick Essien and The Script bassist Ben Sargeant.

Arran said: “This is a massive opportunity for me to develop my songwriting and performing skills by working with some of the best music industry experts.

“I am still very active in the local music scene playing numerous local pubs and other venues and I am already booked to play a festival in Manchester come May.

“My tracks Statues and Lost In The Rain , released in November, have been getting some great reviews on Newcastle FM, BBC Introducing and Fab Radio International in Manchester.

“There has been lots of interest on social networks too and between the two songs have had over 3000 plays on Soundcloud.

“I am back in the recording studio in January recording some new tracks including a track to be used in a future charity project in partnership with The Mighty Boof.

“I am expecting my debut EP will be released in the spring with a launch and show date to be confirmed.

“As a person who has spent his entire life in West Cumbria, venturing outside only for holidays and gigs, the sheer prospect of living in a huge cultural hub like London, and attending a University that is perfect for me in every way, is something that I have dreamed of.”
