YOU would think Gerrards Cross has enough outlets from which to buy alcohol, ranging from off-licences to supermarkets. But a new application which goes before Wycombe and Beaconsfield court next week is from a local garage.

ALREADY boosting their petrol sales by providing a bakery facility, confectionery and magazines, BP Express at Gerrards Cross Service Station are seeking a Justices licence to sell intoxicating liquor of all descriptions. The application will be considered next Friday.

THE Royal British Legions poppy appeal in Gerrards Cross earlier this month raised a record total of £7,550, beating last years achievement by £100.

The women's section of the Legion holds its Christmas bazaar at the Guide Hall in Station Road tomorrow. It offers a fine chance to do a little seasonal shopping between 10am and midday.

THE Gerrards Cross Sailing Association casts off for Christmas next Wednesday evening. The final get-together of the year offers members the opportunity to amuse, confess or inform fellow sailors of recent experiences. The meeting starts at 8pm.

MINSTRELS and mince pies, the long-running divertissement that launches the Christmas season at the Memorial Centre, is on again tomorrow from 7.30pm. The £5 entrance includes a glass of mulled wine.

LIONEL Rigby is the guest speaker at the Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross History Society meeting at the Memorial Centre this evening. His illustrated talk is about Stoke Park at 8pm.

THE Gerrards Cross Club for Women introduces a touch of magic to its annual Christmas party on Wednesday. David Ball will entertain the members with a talk about Magic and the Magic Circle at the club's Yuletide event at 2.30pm.
